COUNSELLING BACKGROUND
I've had experience in a variety of different areas in counselling including helping people overcome anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, addictions and relationship difficulties. Through the years I've always been open to discovering new and innovative treatment methods and over the last while I've discovered and become passionate about the effectiveness of Equine Assisted Counselling.
Personal & Professional Experience in Equine Assisted Counselling
As a Vancouver-based practitioner who works in the field of Equine Assisted Counselling, I have gained a deep understanding of the ways in which working with horses can facilitate positive change in people. In addition to the years of professional counselling experience I bring to the work, I have been deeply engaged in learning about horse behavior and communication. My personal journey with my own horse, getting to know her and learning to properly care for her has challenged me on many levels and motivated me to strive to live life to its fullest potential. This amazing learning is something I’m able to pass on to my clients with the help of Rosie, my equine partner.
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
I’m someone who cares about the environment and enjoys connecting with nature whenever I can. I’m happiest when I’m hiking in the woods with my dog or hanging out with my horse at the barn in Richmond. Animals have always been a big part of my life and I’m fortunate to be able to incorporate my love of animals and the joy and healing they bring to us in my Vancouver counselling practice. I’m also fortunate to have close connections to my human family and friends as well and I enjoy sharing my time with them even if they do get tired of hearing endless stories about my dog Max, my cat Sam and Rosie my horse.
Counselling and Equine Education
I hold a Masters degree in counselling Psychology and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I’ve been developing my Equine Assisted Counselling Program over the last six years. I’m very lucky to have patient and knowledgeable teachers and mentors at the barn where I board my horse. They have provided me with the knowledge and guidance required to become competent in handling and caring for horses. I have studied and I am still studying horse behavior and communication and I’m able to incorporate this learning into my counselling practice. My greatest knowledge has come from Rosie, my horse. She challenges me both personally and professionally and the lessons I learn from her follow me into all aspects of my daily life.
She truly is my Wise Mare.
